in my on-going quest to become a better person, i went out to one of the villages to experience what we in the business like to call, "wool cleaning". now, being the citified imbecile that i am, i always figured sheep sort of just walk around and maintain a fluffy, pristine, cloud-like fleece coat and that the only things people really need to do is card it and spin it. not so. sheep are kind of dirty. actually, they're really dirty. when you sheer the sheep, you get not just wool, but also all the excrement that the sheep was only too happy to include as a free gift. i spent the forth of july out in the mountains, in a river bed, cleaning wool with some members of cooperative tifaout. please enjoy the short educational film i made about how to get the poop out of sheep wool, Amazigh-style.

What a privilege it is to always be the first to see these! :)
i should have put you in the credits as "best boy"
ewww. just behind you, Kev.
not sure that is better than fireworks, Cory, but you sure are learning alot.
I am so very proud of you.
Or dolly grip.
dolly always seemed to be a great name for a sheep? a sheep? a she sheep? a ewe... ewwww.
Hey Mom, I will always beat you to the movies, because they are hosted on my web server! That is unless Cory sends them to others before he posts them, but that is as of yet unprecedented.
ahhhh. so, you are really kind of the uhmm producer?
or 'best boy' for sure.
not to take anything away from Cory who always claimed to be the 'favorite'.
hey. umm. this is my blog. you all could email if you wanted to just speak to each other...
i get jealous of the attention.
that was pretty funny about the ewww ewe thing though, Mom.
it's not a claim. i am the favorite. we can dispute "best", but you and dad have always liked me most.
I love you, Cory. You always make me smile. And that is a great thing.
be sure to wash your hands.
sorry, couldn't help saying that. it was a mom thing.
you think you had to remind me???
it was my feet that got really gross though...
beleive it or not, in Muncie, I was in on plenty of sheep shearing.... quite the experience, I know. that stuff really gets up your nose, too. along with corn husks up in the hay maul? (spoken like mall as in mallory - but not sure I have ever seen that writtne - maybe a rural term)
I don't want to know how the sheep feces gets up your nose!
LOL. well, I meant the fluffly white stuff, but by virtue of Dolly sharing the feces, I imagine some of that got up there too.... uck.
Cory, I really miss seeing that dance and the jake dance on a regular basis. I think the world would be a happier place if you traveled throughout it merely dancing your unique variety of dances.
hahahahhahhahahahahahahaha
ha
you guys are as good as the video...well, almost
(i don't want cory to get jealous again)
aww, thanks kimi. when i get back, we'll have to work on a kimi dance, okay?
lissie, are you saying i get jealous easily??? because i do.
Best sheep story I every saw both on video and the commentary!!!!!!!!
Baaaaaaaaaa Bye.
Booooooooo Dad.
Wouldn't it just be easier to give the sheep a bath before you shear it? Or what about fitting the sheep with a diaper? Maybe you should drop that in the local suggestion baaa-ox.
Fun movie!
THAT WAS THE BEST THING EVER!
sir, glad you liked it. i was a bit scared there might be too many poop references for you.
Karla, tell me this: did you come up with the rest of the comment so you could use baaa-ox?
J&J: the best thing ever, is in fact, your entry.

Cory, I shall think of you every time I see a poop-covered goat (and fair time is quickly approaching...)
You really beat the crap out of that wool, Cory!
Cory: I have seen a lot of prize winning movies but YOURS deserves a Morroccan "Oscar"
I've never posted anything that's gotten this many comments. Now who's jealous?
Well, Cory, as your time in Morocco comes to an end, you will have many memories. This will probably be in the top ten. Thanks for sharing your experiences over the last two years. I've enjoyed reading of your adventures, especially this one. Best of luck and thanks for your service on the behalf of our country.
what a wonderful comment Susan made. you, as always, make an impression, Cory. I am so very proud of you.
Missa, that's a dubious honor for sure!
Chops: i go some good practice preparing to take care of the rock throwers...
GP: i think instead of an "oscar", it would have to be an "Othman" or an "Omar"
Susan, thanks for the really nice comment. i really appreciate when you long time readers make comments. it's your site hits that make me keep this thing going instead of turning it into mass-emails.
Honestly, the baa-ox comment came at the very last minute. Every now and then I surprise myself and those around me. :D
This was GREAT. You really have a good rapport with the locals, I'm impressed. Your Midelt accent kills me, too. :)
Hi Cory, I am Sr Mary Donlon's sister (at home in Ireland). lovely to see the photos of Tatuoine, which I and my family visited in May 2005 to see Mary and where she works. Mary sent us an email so that we could check out your photos, which are great and look so familiar to us. From the perspective of the (relatively speaking)wealthy and prvivelged life in the west, it is amazing to see how these people live in the most beautiful (and barren) landscape. I hope that you are enjoying your time in Morocco.
That video is amazing!! My favorite part was the beating-the-poop-out-of-the-wool dance...
liosliath: yeah, the Midelt accent does sound a bit funny, especially when i travel. Mash kmack instead of mashi Mushkil or ma'alish is the one that gets me in the most trouble.
Louise, glad you enjoyed the pictures. we all love Mary so much! she is an amazing force around these parts.
Em, yeah, you see what you give up when you got back to America? that could have been you dancing in that poop stew.
